New Milton Town Council is proud to announce that it has recently taken delivery of a brand new Electric Vehicle for use in and around the Town.
Delivery of the new Nissan Acenta NV200 Electric Vehicle for use by the Town Council Estates team was particularly welcomed by Cllr Geoff Blunden who said:
“Electric vehicles are increasingly seen not only as clean, but affordable and desirable. Only low emission vehicles like the one we’ve just purchased can tackle the twin problems of air pollution and climate change, protecting both our health and the environment.”
There are now more than 2 million electric vehicles in the world, and in August a record 5.2% of new vehicles sold in the UK were electric or hybrid models.
In July, the Government said it would ban the sale of petrol and diesel cars and vans from 2040. The aim is to reduce air pollution – a source of growing public health concern – and help Britain cut carbon emissions by 80 per cent – the target it has set.
Cllr Geoff Blunden, Chairman of the Town Council’s Amenities Committee explained:
“We all have a desire to reduce carbon emissions in order to help our residents and improve the environment. As a publically-funded body, it is vital that our decisions make economic as well as environmental sense. Running costs of our new Electric Vehicle are estimated at £0.03pence per mile, with fewer moving parts.”
